Sophie swore she would never teach…

but during her first year of university, Sophie was invited by her longtime ballet teacher, Philippa Campbell of the Philippa Campbell School of Ballet, to return and teach contemporary classes for the New Zealand Association of Modern Dance examination programme. While continuing her own professional training and performance career alongside her studies, Sophie quickly discovered a passion for teaching young dancers.

By the time she graduated in 2017, Sophie was a faculty member at the Philippa Campbell School of Ballet, Dance West, and Jayes Dance Studio. Her teaching experience spans a wide range of styles, ages, and levels, including examination classes, jazz troupes, and senior ballet competition choreography. Many of her students and choreographic works have gone on to achieve success at both regional and national dance competitions throughout New Zealand.

After completing her degree, Sophie moved to London, where she taught at The South London Dance School alongside her professional performance work. There, she worked predominantly with children under five and children with learning difficulties — an experience she carried with her to Los Angeles in 2018 while teaching at Sophie Dance.

Now back in London, Sophie is a partner and teacher at The Little Dance Academy and continues to teach and choreograph throughout the city, including holding her own open classes at the renowned Pineapple Dance Studios.

Sophie is deeply passionate about arts education and hopes one day to combine her experience in performance, choreography, and teaching to open her own performing arts academy.
